  • Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 441 chemin du Chêne-Rouge

    Many of our members expressed interest in learning about one of the most treasured traditions in our area — maple trees and maple syrup production. During this event, community members had the opportunity to visit an authentic local sugar shack hosted by CPSLL Board of Directors members Isabelle Foley and Chris Hemmingway. Isabelle and Chris have been producing maple syrup for approximately 20 years and currently tap more than 130 trees each season. Participants learned about the maple syrup production process, from tapping the trees to bottling the finished syrup. Guests also enjoyed the sweet smells of a real maple syrup operation and sampled delicious maple treats.

    Several Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac Board members and other volunteers gathered for a trail maintenance day at Ruisseau Carroll. They met early in the morning to help maintain and improve the trails, contributing to the ongoing conservation and accessibility of this natural area. The event provided a great opportunity for members to work together outdoors while supporting local conservation efforts and trail stewardship.

  • Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 673 chemin Blackburn

    Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac proudly celebrated the grand opening of the new Blackburn hiking trails with members of the community. Visitors enjoyed guided trail walks led by volunteers., offering an opportunity to explore the scenic natural landscape and learn more about local conservation efforts. The event welcomed both experienced hikers and those looking for a peaceful walk in nature. Volunteers also shared information about Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac’s ongoing efforts to permanently acquire and protect the leased land for future generations.

    CPSLL members joined Conservation Perkins-sur-le-Lac for an educational nature walk on our leased land around Ruisseau Carroll. The walk was led by Board of Directors member and bioligist Chris Hemmingway, who has lived on Lac Truite for 20 years and shared his knowledge of the local flora and fauna along the trail. Participants enjoyed an afternoon exploring the natural beauty of the area while learning more about the local ecosystem and conservation efforts.

    Lead by avid birder Marc Bosc, participants discovered the richness of some of Perkins-sur-le-Lac’s trails; identified over 40 species of birds that nest in our area, including species with special status (at risk or endangered), such as the Eastern Wood-Pewee; learned fascinating facts about our feathered friends; and, connected with other conservation minded neighbours.

    Lead by Ken Lange, a passionate local naturalist and University of Alberta graduate in Zoology/Botany and Computer Science, virtual session participants discovered how to capture plant and wildlife sightings using the

    iNaturalist app right from a smartphone; learned how to contribute to other users’ observations and join exciting projects; explored the iNaturalist website and its features alongside the app; and obtained some tips and tricks on using the app.
